Major Upgrades Set to Enhance Safety and Accessibility on Fistral Beach Path
Starting this Monday, Fistral Beach enthusiasts will witness significant enhancements to the popular coastal path behind the beach, known for its scenic views and access to one of Newquay’s most beloved beaches.
Cornwall Councillor Louis Gardner announced a comprehensive programme aimed at repairing and upgrading the path, improving access, and protecting the surrounding dunes.
Comprehensive Improvement Plans
The repair work, orchestrated by Cormac teams, will focus on various sections of the path, particularly those that have deteriorated and pose safety risks to the public. Key activities include replacing old fencing, reinstating main beach access points, and removing excess sand that has accumulated on the paths.
An important addition will be a safety handrail along a section of the path leading to the north Fistral car park. This enhancement aims to provide extra safety and stability for beachgoers, especially in slippery conditions.
Temporary Closures for Safety
For the safety of the public, some sections of the path will need to be closed temporarily during the repairs. These closures are scheduled between 9am and 3pm on weekdays, beginning 22nd April, and are expected to last for 1-2 weeks. Louis highlighted the necessity of these closures to ensure that the improvements are conducted without any accidents or interruptions.
Special Equipment for Delicate Areas
The section of the path running between the sand dunes and the adjacent golf course will see the use of a mini excavator equipped with a post driver. This machine will help in efficiently installing new fence posts and clearing the built-up sand. Given the narrow width of this particular path segment, it will be completely closed to the public while the excavator is in operation to prevent any safety hazards.
Collaborative Efforts for Dune Resilience
These upgrades are part of a larger effort involving Friends of Fistral Dunes and the Making Space For Sand project, which aims to bolster the dunes’ resilience against erosion and coastal flooding. The new fencing will not only enhance safety but also help control access to sensitive areas, thus reducing unwanted foot traffic and mitigating erosion.
Enhancing Beach Experience and Safety
These improvements are a response to community feedback concerning the state of the path and are crucial for ensuring safe and enjoyable access to Fistral Beach. By installing safety features and controlling the flow of visitors to delicate areas, these efforts will help preserve the natural beauty and integrity of the coastal landscape, making Fistral Beach a safer and more welcoming destination for all.
Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses and plan your visits accordingly to accommodate the temporary weekday closures. Enjoy a safer and more accessible Fistral Beach by the end of this maintenance and enhancement project!
