Clemo Books in Newquay Is Giving Away Free Book Vouchers and Hosting Must-See Events This June
Folklore, van-life stories and a deep dive into birth myths on the calendar
Clemo Books in Newquay has revealed a packed schedule of events this June, with free storytelling sessions, author appearances and £5 book vouchers up for grabs for young visitors.
The independent bookshop, based on the corner of Bank Street and Beachfield Avenue, is inviting the community to get involved with a range of cultural events aimed at both children and adults.
Free Folktales and a Van-Life Author Visit
The month begins on Saturday 7th June at 10am with a free storytelling session led by writer Anna Chorlton. Known for her work on Cornish folklore, Anna will be sharing tales inspired by Cornwall’s moors, mines and mischievous sea spirits.
On Saturday 28th June at 11:30am, Charlotte Bradman, author of The Happy Nomad, will visit for a free book signing. Visitors will have the chance to meet Charlotte, ask questions and share their own van-life stories.

Local Journalist Hosts Evening Talk
On Wednesday 25th June at 7pm, journalist and author Hannah Marsh will be discussing her new non-fiction title Thread. The book charts the history of the caesarean section, blending medical insight with folklore and personal experience. Tickets are on sale now and the event is expected to sell out.
Bookshop owner Jaimie Poyner said:
“We’re so excited to welcome these authors into Clemo Books in June and we hope people discover and join in with these cultural opportunities on offer to locals and visitors to Newquay. From a free children’s storytelling session with an acclaimed folklore writer, an author event uncovering the myth and history of birth, to the journey of one writer finding freedom living in a van – there are so many stories to hear and discover at Clemo Books. Get involved if you can and support Newquay’s high street!”
Free £5 Book Tokens for Children During Independent Bookshop Week
To mark Independent Bookshop Week from Saturday 14th to Saturday 21st June, Clemo Books will be giving away £5 National Book Tokens to children and young people who visit during that time.
“It’s so important that children and young people discover the magic of books early on in life. Novels and non-fiction let people travel the world, back in time or inside the minds of some fascinating thinkers. Hopefully the free National Book Tokens vouchers we’re handing out will inspire a new love of literature in some young people,” added Jaimie.
The offer will run while stocks last, so early visits are encouraged.
