Kayakers Rescued Near Lamorna Cove By Penlee Lifeboat After Battling Wind and Tide
On the 18th May, three kayakers found themselves in perilous waters south of Lamorna Cove. The inflatable kayak, with its three occupants, was struggling against the wind and tide, necessitating immediate rescue.
Swift Response by Penlee Lifeboat
At the request of Falmouth Coastguard, the RNLI Penlee Lifeboat station launched its all-weather Severn Class Lifeboat, Ivan Ellen. The rescue mission was led by Coxswain Patch Harvey and his dedicated volunteer crew. Within ten minutes, they successfully located the distressed kayak near Tater Dhu Lighthouse.
Safe Return to Shore
The three individuals, although wet and cold, were safely brought aboard the lifeboat along with their kayak. They were then transported back to Lamorna Cove, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Ready for the Next Mission
Upon completing the rescue, the lifeboat returned to Newlyn, where the crew prepared for any future emergencies. After refuelling the lifeboat, they themselves took a well-deserved break with tea and saffron cake before heading home.
This swift and efficient rescue underscores the vital role of the RNLI and its volunteer crews in ensuring safety at sea.
