Legendary electronic music duo Underworld delivered their first-ever live performance in Cornwall, captivating an enthusiastic crowd at The Wyldes last weekend.

The event, marked by a double-length set and a vibrant festival atmosphere, left attendees dancing non-stop and eager for more.

A Perfect Festival Setting

The Wyldes, a sun-soaked Cornish outdoor venue, hosted the iconic duo along with a stellar line-up of electronic music masters. Festival-goers meandered through the idyllic campsites and glamping villages, greeted by smartly decorated food vendors, reasonably priced bars, and a laid-back vibe that promised a good time for all.

The evening kicked off with underground artist Silkworm, who set the pace with intricate rhythms and pulsating basslines. As the sun set, Ela Minus took to the stage, enchanting the audience with her live melodies and hypnotic techno beats, all against the backdrop of the venue’s signature classic car bonfire.

Backstage and Beyond

The backstage lounge, aptly named The Garden, was abuzz with cocktail-sipping VIPs enjoying sets from local talents like Antidotes, Holocene, Pearl Exchange DJs, and Annon Lee, adding a unique flavour to the event.

Underworld Takes the Stage

Underworld’s performance was a masterclass in electronic music. They began their two-and-a-half-hour set with tracks like ‘Low Burn’ and ‘Nylon Strung’, seamlessly blending into classics from their debut album ‘Dubnobasswithmyheadman’. The light faded, but the energy only intensified with a colossal sound system, dynamic live video, and a light show that transformed the main stage into a sci-fi spectacle.

The crowd was treated to anthems like ‘Pearl’s Girl’, ‘Dark & Long (Dark Train)’, ‘King of Snake’, and new favourites like ‘Denver Luna’, ‘The Colour Red’, and ‘Fen Violet’, culminating in the euphoric finale with ‘Born Slippy (Nuxx)’.

An Unforgettable Afterparty

For those with energy to spare, DJ Frankie G hosted an afterparty that kept the dancefloor buzzing with hit after hit. In a delightful surprise, the beloved tiny nightclub Dinkie’s from former festival Leopallooza opened its doors for a late-night set by Saturday Night Dance Club, delighting ravers.

Social Media Buzz

Event attendees flooded social media with glowing reviews, sharing their unforgettable experiences:

“Underworld were epic! I’ve seen them countless times and in many venues and, hands down, this was the best. Such a special vibe.”

“It was an epic day/night. So impressed with the venue and obviously the great line up. The vibe, the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. So glad we came down from Brighton. We will be back.”

Looking Ahead

The Wyldes team expressed their satisfaction with the event, saying, “Wow, what a show! The artists’ performances were all superb, the stage, sound, and lighting were the best they’ve ever been, and we are blessed to have such amazing festival-goers, who truly bring the atmosphere. We simply couldn’t put on these huge shows without them. We can’t wait to do it all again in two weeks’ time!”

With five more shows lined up for summer 2024, including headliners Simple Minds, Anne-Marie, Jess Glynne, James Arthur, and IDLES, tickets are selling fast. Many glamping and camping options are already sold out or running low. Don’t miss out on this summer’s hottest events!
