Second Death Following Road Traffic Collision, Mullion
A devastating road traffic collision in Mullion has claimed the lives of two local residents. The incident, which occurred on Monday 14th October on the B3296 Meaver Road, involved a silver Vauxhall Astra and a double-decker school bus.
Second Fatality Confirmed
Devon & Cornwall Police have confirmed that a one-year-old child, who was involved in the collision, has now passed away following life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. The child’s mother, a woman in her 30s, also tragically succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to hospital.
The next of kin has been informed, and the family is requesting privacy as they cope with this heartbreaking loss.
School Bus Injuries
The school bus was carrying 27 children at the time of the accident. Fortunately, most of them only sustained minor injuries. However, one child suffered serious injuries, though police have confirmed that these are not life-threatening.
Police Investigation
Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team are continuing their enquiries into the cause of the crash. Sergeant Phil Brown shared the sorrow felt by the team, saying:
“We are deeply saddened that a woman and child have now died following the collision in Mullion earlier this week. It is impossible to put into words the grief those close to them are feeling right now.”
He added that the team is working closely with the local school and other partners to provide support to those affected.
