Helicopter Called to Help Casualty Near Mousehole
A coastal rescue mission unfolded on Sunday afternoon after a person fell and felt faint on a challenging section of the South West Coast Path between Lamorna and Mousehole. The Lands End Coastguard Search and Rescue Team, alongside the South Western Ambulance Service, responded to the emergency.
What3Words Used to Pinpoint Casualty
At 15:53, the Coastguard team was alerted and immediately tasked with assisting in locating and extracting the casualty. Using the precision of the What3Words app, which accurately pinpointed the individual’s location, the team from Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) quickly arrived at the scene. The area proved difficult to access due to its remote nature.
Helicopter Support Called In
Due to the condition of the casualty and the challenging route, Coastguard helicopter Rescue 924 was called in, alongside full-time officer AC11. After conducting a recce flight, a winch paramedic was lowered to assess the situation and prepare the individual for airlift. The casualty was transported to a field above the scene, where the helicopter had a secured landing site.
Casualty Transferred to Ambulance
Once secured, the casualty was carried to an awaiting ambulance for a full handover. The team remained on-site to assist with the safe return of the stretcher to the aircraft. After the ambulance departed and a debrief was completed, the coastguard team stood down and returned to the station.
If you witness someone in danger along the coast, always call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
