Mevagissey Community Primary School Students Join Hands with Cormac for Spring Planting

In a vibrant showcase of community spirit and environmental stewardship, the children of Mevagissey Community Primary School recently devoted their time to beautifying Cornerways, Mevagissey, by planting spring bulbs and scattering wildflower seeds. This initiative, led by Cormac’s Community and Partnerships Officer, Lea Thomas, saw an increased participation from the students, a testament to their growing enthusiasm for environmental conservation. “They enjoyed the tree planting so much that they came back in expanded numbers this time,” Thomas remarked, highlighting the children’s eagerness to contribute to their community’s green spaces.

The event was supported by Cormac’s Environment team, with Trevor, Shane, and Wayne playing pivotal roles by providing the necessary seeds and preparing the site by scarifying the grass before the planting began. Their efforts ensured that the children had a conducive environment for their activities, making the event both educational and enjoyable.

Special appreciation was extended to Councillor James Mustoe, who was instrumental in forging the connection between the school and the project and also lent a hand during the event. Additionally, gratitude was expressed towards Kelly, who assisted the children and ensured they were well-hydrated and energised with drinks and biscuits.

Ben Ringrose, the headteacher of Mevagissey Community Primary School, expressed his gratitude towards everyone involved, noting the positive feedback from both staff and students. “Thank you all so much for today. Anna and Alan said the whole event was brilliant, and I know from talking to the children this afternoon they had such a great time. Hopefully, I won’t be teaching next time, and I’ll be able to join in!” he said, looking forward to participating in future activities.

The successful collaboration between Cormac, Mevagissey Community Primary School, and the broader community serves as a shining example of how collective efforts can lead to meaningful environmental and social benefits. The initiative not only beautified the local area but also fostered a sense of responsibility and joy among the young participants, encouraging them to remain active in community service and environmental preservation.
