Looe Scouts Glow Stick Night Hike Raises £370 for Lifeboat Station

Scouts Visit RNLI Looe Lifeboat Station
On Tuesday 26th November 2024, 1st Looe Scouts visited the RNLI Looe Lifeboat Station to present £370 raised through sponsored glow stick night hikes in Kilminorth Woods. The visit, hosted by Lifeboat Visits Officer Geoff Gee and visits team member Adam Jones, included a tour of the Albatross boathouse, inshore lifeboats, and launch tractors.
Geoff and Adam explained to the 16 Beaver Scouts and 13 Cub Scouts how the RNLI’s volunteer crews save lives at sea. As part of the experience, Beaver Scouts Audrey and Edie presented a £180 donation, while Cub Scout Jack contributed £190 on behalf of the Cubs.
Working Towards Challenge Awards
The scouts undertook the night hikes as part of their Challenge Award, raising funds for the RNLI while stepping outside their comfort zones. The visit to the lifeboat station marked the final step in their Challenge Award journey, requiring them to meet members of an emergency service.
Geoff thanked the scouts for their efforts and praised their enthusiasm, saying: “All the children were very knowledgeable about the work we do, and their enthusiasm was brilliant.”

Chief Scout Bronze Awards Celebrated
During the visit, Beaver leader Paul Richardson awarded Audrey and Edie the prestigious Chief Scout Bronze Award. This accolade, rarely achieved, is the highest honour for Beaver Scouts. Paul highlighted the pair’s exceptional achievement, saying: “Audrey and Edie are fantastic role models for our younger beavers. Many, many congratulations Audrey and Edie.”
To earn the award, Audrey and Edie completed all the Challenge Awards and four Activity Badges, demonstrating their commitment to stepping outside personal comfort zones.
Supporting the RNLI
The funds raised will support RNLI Looe’s vital work saving lives at sea. The RNLI, a charity reliant on donations, expressed gratitude for the scouts’ generous contribution and hard work.
