Looe Cracks Down on Crime with Increased Security Measures

Published On: 12 July 2024Last Updated: 12 July 2024By

In a proactive response to rising shoplifting and anti-social behaviour, Looe Town Council has announced a comprehensive plan to enhance safety in the town.

This initiative, developed in collaboration with the Looe Business Forum, Looe Safety Partnership, local organisations, and Devon and Cornwall Police, aims to address the growing concerns of residents and visitors.

Additional Security Patrols

Starting from 12th July, Looe Town Council will fund a 10-week trial of increased security patrols. Poseidon Security has been contracted to provide two security officers for three days each week during this period. These officers will be responsible for patrolling key areas of the town, providing a visible security presence to deter potential offenders and reassure the community.

Enhanced Police Presence

In addition to the private security patrols, Devon and Cornwall Police will contribute by providing an additional 20 hours of policing in August and September. This increased police presence is expected to further bolster the town’s efforts to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

Community Impact

The council hopes that these combined efforts will create a safer environment for both residents and visitors, allowing everyone to enjoy Looe without the fear of crime. By addressing these issues head-on, the town aims to foster a sense of security and wellbeing within the community.

Looe Town Council’s commitment to safety underscores its dedication to maintaining a peaceful and enjoyable atmosphere for all. The success of this 10-week trial could pave the way for more permanent security measures in the future, ensuring that Looe remains a safe and welcoming destination.
