New Disability Football Hub to Open in Liskeard – Here’s How to Get Involved
A new Disability Football Hub is launching at Liskeard Leisure Centre on Tuesday 1st April, offering more opportunities for adults with learning and physical disabilities to enjoy the game.
Expanding Disability Football in Cornwall
Following the success of the first hub at St Austell Leisure Centre, which started weekly sessions in November, Cornwall Football Association has teamed up with Brandon Trust to bring a second hub to Liskeard. The project is backed by the FA’s Journey to Inclusion fund and aims to create more accessible football opportunities across the county.
Weekly Sessions at Liskeard Leisure Centre
The Liskeard sessions will take place every Tuesday from 2-3pm at the leisure centre, which is run by GLL under the Better brand. Karen Edmond, GLL’s Community Sport Manager for Cornwall, said:
“The St Austell hub has been doing really well so we decided the time was right to start another one at Liskeard.
“Run by qualified FA coaches, the sessions will take place in our Liskeard centre from 2-3pm every Tuesday. The cost is just £3 per person and any adult with a learning or physical disability is very welcome to come along.
“Those coming to St Austell on a Wednesday afternoon have great fun – enjoying both the exercise and the opportunity to meet other people.”
A Growing Partnership
Chloe Harris, Cornwall FA’s Development Officer for Women, Girls and Disability, played a key role in establishing the partnership, having previously worked for Brandon Trust. She highlighted the shared vision behind the project:
“Both the Brandon Trust and Cornwall FA believe everyone should have equal opportunities, not only in football but all aspects of life.
“We’re delighted with the hub’s success in St Austell and look forward to launching Liskeard.”
