Community Funds Next Round of Kerdroya Construction – Work to Resume in October
Bodmin Moor’s Stone Labyrinth Draws Thousands as New Phase Announced
The next phase of construction at Kerdroya, the world’s largest known classical labyrinth, will begin this October thanks to support from the local community.
Located at Colliford Lake on Bodmin Moor, the striking structure opened to the public on the Spring Equinox 2025 and has already attracted over 14,000 visitors. Made entirely from Cornish stone hedging, Kerdroya celebrates Cornwall’s landscape and heritage with a 750-metre path winding into its centre – known as the Heart of Kerdroya.
Community at the Heart
This new stage of building has been made possible through the generosity of local people. Every contributor, or ‘hedge pledger’, marked their own yard of hedge with a metal disc bearing a personalised inscription. Many shared what Cornwall means to them, making the labyrinth not just a physical structure but a living record of community connection.
Will Coleman, creator of Kerdroya and artistic director at Golden Tree Productions, said:
“Apert yw, a-dhia an kansow a vessajys awenek hag amovyansek, bos lies huni tevys gans Kerdroya / It is obvious from the hundreds of inspiring and moving messages that Kerdroya has touched many people. For some, it provides a spiritual experience, while others may find a deep connection with kith and kin or find it a healing space in which they can switch off from life’s stresses.”
Prints Still Available
Although the current round of hedge pledge discs has sold out, supporters can still get involved by purchasing a limited-edition print. Each piece has been hand drawn by Will’s son Merran Coleman and signed by Will. Prints can be tailored with a personal hedge-pledge message and earlybird prices are available until 30th May.
Will said:
“We are very grateful to all the people and sponsors who have believed in this project and got us to where we are now. We want the public to continue to enjoy Kerdroya and watch it evolve, but we also need to continue with our construction work. So, we intend to continue work during off-peak time, across another three winters. The current plan is that the site will close after every Autumn Equinox and reopen on the Spring Equinox each year. ‘Slow Art’ can only happen ‘dreckly’!”
Plan Your Visit
Kerdroya is free to enter, with parking available at the nearby Colliford Lake car park (charges apply). Visitors can download the Places and Trails app for a guided experience.
