Why Ofsted Says Egloskerry Primary Is Getting It Right
School holds onto its ‘Good’ rating in latest inspection
Egloskerry Primary School has once again been rated a ‘Good’ school by Ofsted, following a visit from inspectors in April. The school, part of Athena Learning Trust, received high praise for its inclusive approach, calm atmosphere and ambitious standards.
Pupils proud of their school
Inspectors reported that children at Egloskerry are happy, respectful and enthusiastic learners. They said pupils are proud of their school and show positive attitudes to learning, wanting to be successful.
Relationships between staff and pupils were described as “positive and warm,” with a strong focus on care and building confidence. Inspectors also noted that inclusion is a particular strength at the school. There is a clear process in place to identify pupils with special education needs or disabilities (SEND), meaning those children are supported well to learn the curriculum alongside their classmates.
A calm, purposeful environment
The report praised the school for its calm and purposeful environment, and said both Egloskerry and the wider trust are determined to help pupils learn well. Children benefit from a wide range of trips and clubs, which enhance their education and give them opportunities to develop their talents and interests.
Ofsted said the school is “ambitious for pupils” and sets high expectations to help them succeed in the next stage of their education. They highlighted the school’s values — kindness, dream big, be your best self, love reading, get involved — as being central to everyday life at Egloskerry.
Reading in particular stood out. Inspectors said the school prioritises helping children learn to read quickly, with skilled staff and a strong culture of reading and book-sharing among pupils.
A culture of inclusion and respect
Through its work on culture and diversity, the school helps pupils talk confidently about equality and inclusion. Inspectors noted that children understand this is a school where everyone is welcome, no matter their background.
During the inspection, Ofsted spoke to school leaders, staff, parents, and members of the governing board, including the chair of the trust and the CEO. They visited lessons, looked at pupils’ work, and spoke directly with children about their experience of school.
‘A true reflection of our school’
Lynsey Slater, Principal at Egloskerry Primary School, said:
“I am incredibly proud that Ofsted has once again recognised Egloskerry Primary School as a ‘Good’ school. This report is a true reflection of the dedication, passion, and care shown by our staff, pupils, and wider school community every day.”
“I am especially pleased that inspectors highlighted our inclusive ethos, strong relationships, and the confidence and enthusiasm of our pupils. At Egloskerry, we believe in nurturing not only academic excellence but also character, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. This outcome strengthens our commitment to providing a joyful, enriching education that prepares every child for a successful and meaningful future.”
