Masked Madness at Launceston College: You’ll Never Guess Who Was Under the SpongeBob Costume
Teachers Swap Classrooms for Costumes in End-of-Term Surprise
Students at Launceston College were left stunned this week as their teachers ditched the whiteboards and donned dazzling disguises for a surprise performance inspired by the hit TV show The Masked Singer.
The event, held as part of a reward celebration, saw staff step into elaborate costumes to perform well-known songs—completely hiding their identities as pupils tried to crack the mystery. With every performance, the school hall buzzed with excitement as students played detective, shouting out their guesses and cheering with chants of “Take it off!”
SpongeBob Takes the Crown
In a grand finale that had the whole school cheering, Ms Tucker, dressed as SpongeBob, was crowned the overall winner after delivering a powerful performance of You Got the Love.
Other standout appearances included:
-
Mr Lyle as the mysterious Unicorn
-
Mrs Duckworth as the sparkling Daisy Doll
-
Mr Stoppard as the crowd-pleasing Dave the Minion
A Celebration of Community and Joy
Mr Matthew Thompson, Principal at Launceston College, praised the effort of both staff and students:
“This was such a fantastic way to bring our school community together and celebrate our students’ efforts. The joy and energy in the room were incredible, and I’m so proud of the staff who were brave enough to step into the spotlight. It’s a reminder that school can be filled with fun and surprise—students are already buzzing about what’s coming next!”

Sixth form provision
Inspectors noted that “all pupils, including those with SEND, follow a broad and ambitious curriculum. They learn new knowledge in a logical order. Pupils build on what they already know. Students in the sixth-form study for qualifications that are well matched to their future aspirations. The work they complete is suitably demanding. Pupils attending the specially resourced provision follow a curriculum that meets their needs and capabilities.”
It’s safe to say that on this occasion, learning took a different form—one filled with music, mystery, and a lot of laughter.
