Major Overnight Fire Near Launceston Destroys Homes – Families Left in Urgent Need
Six Fire Crews and Additional Support Respond to Serious Incident
In the early hours of Sunday 11th May, a serious residential fire broke out on the outskirts of Launceston, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
At 1.48am, both appliances from Launceston Community Fire Station were mobilised. On arrival, an assistance message was sent requesting more support, with crews from Delabole and Bodmin Community Fire Stations dispatched to the scene.
A second message shortly followed, increasing the response to six pumps. Additional crews from Liskeard and Holsworthy were mobilised. The response also included an aerial ladder platform from Crownhill, breathing apparatus support from St Austell, and a water carrier from Liskeard.
All Occupants Accounted For
Firefighters confirmed that all occupants were safely accounted for. The families involved have lost all of their belongings.
Bude Community Fire Station covered Launceston’s area and responded to other calls while the incident was ongoing. Padstow Community Fire Station will remain at the scene throughout the day to continue damping down and monitoring hotspots.
Appeal for Urgent Donations
An appeal has been launched to help the families affected, who are now in urgent need of essential items. Donations can be dropped off at:

Boys trainers (adult size 5)

Girls clothing (age 8/9)

Women’s clothing (size 18)

Men’s clothing (size small)
“Let’s get together as a community and support these families who have lost everything,” the station said in its Facebook post.
