Launceston Sixth: New Name and Slogan as College Rebrands Its Sixth Form Experience

Launceston College, part of the Athena Learning Trust, has announced a rebrand for its sixth form provision, now known as Launceston Sixth, with the new slogan: Exceptional Teaching, Exceptional Experience. This rebranding reflects significant changes in the college’s post-16 offering over the past two years, designed to align more closely with the institution’s academic ethos.

Outstanding Academic Results and Destinations

Launceston Sixth students celebrated impressive A Level results in August, with a 100% pass rate across all subjects. Of those, 34% achieved an A* or A, while 70% received grades between A* and B. Graduates of Launceston Sixth have progressed to prestigious destinations, including the University of Oxford and competitive degree apprenticeships with employers such as Babcock International.

Support for Academic and Personal Development

With a focus on fostering independence and responsibility, Launceston Sixth provides dedicated private study spaces exclusively for Year 12 and Year 13 students. Staff work closely with students to build self-motivation, preparing them for both university and the workplace. Launceston College’s sixth form was rated Good by Ofsted last year, with inspectors commending the “journey of life” curriculum for its role in equipping students with the skills needed for increasing independence.

Open Evening Details

Prospective students and their families are invited to attend an open evening on Thursday, 14th November, from 6 pm to 8 pm, for a closer look at what Launceston Sixth has to offer.

Matthew Thompson, Principal of Launceston College, commented on the rebrand: “I know that Launceston Sixth has been on a journey and that staff and students have worked hard to reach new academic heights. We aim to provide a challenging, supportive, caring and enjoyable learning environment that encourages young people and allows them to develop their individual talents. We motivate students to flourish and progress as an individual, to achieve their potential and progress successfully to their future career through university or employment.”

About Launceston College

In its recent Ofsted report, Launceston College received a Good rating across various areas, including Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management, and Sixth Form Provision. Inspectors highlighted the college’s broad and ambitious curriculum for all students, including those with special educational needs, praising its logical structure that builds on students’ existing knowledge.
