Launceston Primary School Supports Push-Up Challenge for Cancer Research
Launceston Primary staff and pupils back daily fundraiser for Cancer Research UK
An IT technician at Launceston Primary School has taken on a daily push-up challenge for Cancer Research UK — and the whole school got involved.
Dave Dean, known to pupils as the school’s tech guru, has been completing 100 push-ups every day throughout June to raise money for the cancer charity. What started as a personal effort has quickly turned into a school-wide moment of support and strength.
During a recent assembly, pupils and staff surprised Dave by joining the challenge themselves.
Pupils Step Up
Laughter and encouragement filled the school hall as children from across the year groups added their own push-ups to the total.
-
Ada from Year 3 and Emilia from Year 2 completed 10 push-ups each
-
Theo (Year 2) and Riley (Explorers) teamed up to do 28 push-ups together
Staff Join the Fun
Then it was the teachers’ turn, with the crowd of pupils cheering them on.
-
Mr Bishop, Mr Marshall, and Mr Rosevear each added 10 push-ups
-
Headteacher Kate Eyre also joined in, completing her 10 push-ups with encouragement from children and colleagues
In total, the school racked up 88 push-ups during the assembly. True to form, Dave matched every single one and added a few extras to complete his 100 for the day.
A Personal Mission for a Greater Cause
Dave is raising funds for Cancer Research UK, which has been working since 2002 to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer through research, influence and information. The charity has helped double survival rates in the UK over the past four decades.
Kate Eyre said:
“What a brilliant, feel-good afternoon, it was more than just a fitness challenge. It was about togetherness, resilience, and doing something meaningful for others. We’re so proud of Mr Dean and the children for throwing themselves into this with such enthusiasm.”
Dave’s fundraising page is still open for donations.
