Launceston College Students Take Part in Adventurous Learning Week

From Paris to paddleboarding, it’s not your average week at school

Students from Launceston College have just wrapped up an action-packed Adventurous Learning Week, which saw pupils jetting off to Paris, braving the waves in Cornwall, and diving into everything from mystery-solving to motor maintenance.

The event, which took place this term, gave students in Years 7, 8 and 9 the chance to swap the classroom for hands-on activities, local adventures and overseas travel.

A Week of Discovery and Excitement

Organised by Launceston College, part of the Athena Learning Trust, the week offered over 25 exciting options. For those keen to travel, residential trips included visits to the WWI Battlefields, Disney and central Paris, as well as the Isles of Scilly and a London Sports Tour.

Back home, students weren’t missing out. Surfing, horse riding, fishing, and even motor vehicle maintenance sessions kept the energy levels high. There were also tech and creative options like computer science coding challenges, Art Week, Film Week, Professional Cookery and Bake & Make.

A unique mystery-solving experience called The Da Vinci Code offered something a little different, challenging students’ critical thinking in a fictional detective-style setting.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Principal Matthew Thompson said:
“Adventurous Learning Week continues to be a highlight of the school year. It’s fantastic to see our students stepping outside their comfort zones, discovering new strengths, and having fun while learning in completely different settings. The confidence and independence they gain from this week are truly invaluable.”

Whether walking along the Seine or galloping through the Cornish countryside, students were encouraged to be curious, build confidence and form new connections.
