Launceston College Students Enjoy Residential Trip to Boswinger and Caerhays Castle
Trip to Boswinger helps students build confidence, impressing everyone they met
Students from Launceston College, part of the Athena Learning Trust, have recently returned from a sunshine-filled residential to Boswinger YHA, where they explored the Cornish coastline, took in castle history, and left a lasting impression wherever they went.
Exploring Caerhays Castle
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Caerhays Castle, where the students enjoyed a guided tour of the grounds, learning about its history and horticulture. The experience gave them the chance to engage with heritage outside of the classroom in a hands-on way.
Sunshine, Sea and Life Skills
After their visit to the castle, the group spent a day at the beach, making the most of the clear skies and warm weather. But the trip was about more than just a change of scenery. It was a chance for students to grow in independence and build confidence through new experiences.
Staff at Caerhays Castle, Boswinger Youth Hostel, and local shops praised the students for their behaviour, describing them as “exceptionally polite, well-mannered, and respectful”.
Proud Moments for the College
Matthew Thompson, Principal at Launceston College, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our students. They embraced every part of the trip with enthusiasm, kindness, and curiosity. The feedback from the community has been wonderful, it’s a real credit to the students and the staff who supported them.”
Background on Launceston College
Launceston College has been rated Good by Ofsted in key areas including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth form provision.
Inspectors noted that all pupils, including those with SEND, follow a broad and ambitious curriculum. They build on what they already know in a logical order, with sixth form students working towards qualifications matched to their aspirations. Pupils in the specially resourced provision are taught a curriculum suited to their needs and abilities.
