Altarnun Pupils Come Face to Face with Sharks on School Trip
Class 1 visits UK’s largest aquarium for hands-on marine experience
Pupils from Class 1 at Altarnun Primary School had an eye-opening experience this term with a visit to the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, diving into the wonders of marine life and ocean conservation.
From exploring Plymouth Sound to marvelling at the tropical waters tanks, the children were immersed in life beneath the waves. Exhibits like Eddystone Reef brought the marine world to life and offered insights into the importance of protecting our oceans.
Creative learning meets ocean discovery
After lunch, the pupils took part in a Habitat Hat Workshop, where they designed and decorated their own creations inspired by the habitats they had explored. The session encouraged creativity while reinforcing what they had learnt about marine environments.
Christina Medland, Principal at Altarnun Primary School, said:
“This trip was a perfect blend of fun and education. Our children were completely inspired by the incredible sea life and gained a much deeper understanding of marine ecosystems. Opportunities like this really help bring learning to life.”
A school focused on a rounded education
Altarnun Primary School, part of Athena Learning Trust, aims to provide both academic challenge and personal development through activities like this, helping every pupil reach their potential. The school is rated Good in all areas by Ofsted, with inspectors praising its warm and welcoming community.
