UPDATE | A man has died following a road traffic collision near Coverack

A man in his 80s has died following a serious road traffic collision on The Lizard.

The incident happened at around 4.25pm on Wednesday 2nd April on an unclassified road at Trevothen, between Coverack and Penhallick. It involved a silver Kawasaki motorbike and a tractor.

Man Airlifted in Life-Threatening Condition

The driver of the tractor, 88-year-old local man, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in a life-threatening condition. Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed he sadly died the following day, on Thursday 3rd April. His next of kin have been informed.

A second man was also taken to hospital. He was treated for minor injuries at Treliske and later discharged.

Road Closed for Investigation

Officers from the Roads Policing Team attended the scene and carried out a detailed investigation. The road remained closed for approximately six hours.

Arrest Made

A man in his 60s from Porthleven has been arrested on suspicion of:

• Causing serious injury by careless driving

• Using a motor vehicle in a public place without third party insurance

• Driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit

He has been released on bail while further enquiries continue.

Appeal for Witnesses

Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage that could assist their investigation.
