Tragic Incident on A390 near St Austell Claims Life of Young Boy

Devon and Cornwall Police are currently investigating a heart-wrenching incident that occurred on the A390 near St Austell, where a young boy tragically lost his life.

Authorities are urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Tragedy Strikes Early Evening

The collision happened at approximately 4.50 pm on Thursday, 25 April, on Penpillick Hill. It involved a pedestrian, a five-year-old boy, and a vehicle, identified as a Ford Fiesta. Despite rapid emergency responses, the young pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The distressing news has left the community in shock and mourning.

Investigation Underway

Phil, a Sergeant from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team, expressed his condolences, emphasising the profound impact of the event on the family, who are being supported by specialist officers during this difficult time. He also extended his gratitude towards the public who stopped to assist at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta was found to be unharmed, and the road was closed for several hours to facilitate emergency services and investigation teams, reopening early on Friday, 26 April.
