Take a Walk on Gunwalloe’s New Circular Walk Path – Nature at Its Best!

Published On: 15 September 2024Last Updated: 15 September 2024By

A brand-new circular footpath has opened at Gunwalloe, offering walkers a safe, off-road route through the countryside. The path links seamlessly to an existing section of the South West Coast Path, providing an improved experience for those exploring this part of Cornwall.

Enhancing Access and Supporting Nature

This latest development is part of the broader Gunwalloe project, a key initiative aimed at improving access and enhancing public enjoyment of the area. The project also has a significant focus on environmental conservation, with efforts to manage the surrounding land to support nature recovery and combat the impacts of climate change.

Over the last five years, the landscape at Gunwalloe has been evolving with wildlife in mind. Grass margins and hedgerows have been left uncut to create better habitats for local species. Additionally, five hectares of arable land have been dedicated to planting winter bird seed crops each year, which supports bird populations during the colder months.

Future Conservation Plans

Looking ahead, more work is planned to benefit local wildlife. New woodlands will be established next winter, alongside pockets of trees and shrubs to create more sheltered environments. Wildflower-rich grasslands are also being developed, adding further biodiversity to the area.

These efforts align with the National Trust’s commitment to creating habitats that encourage nature recovery while mitigating climate change impacts.

Refreshments with a View

Visitors who complete the new circular route can also enjoy refreshments at Gunwalloe Café, which is open daily from 10am to 4pm until Sunday 3rd November (weather permitting). Profits from the café go directly towards supporting the National Trust’s ongoing conservation work.
