Published On: 18 June 2024Last Updated: 18 June 2024By

Rick Milburn has been announced as the new Sector Inspector for Falmouth & Helston, succeeding Acting Sector Inspector David Pearce. Rick will oversee the local policing teams serving the communities of Penryn, Porthleven, Falmouth, and Helston.

A Local Hero Returns

Rick Milburn, who grew up in the Falmouth and Penryn area, joined Devon and Cornwall Police in 2004. His career has spanned various roles across departments such as Patrol, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the Public Protection Unit (PPU). Rick’s notable achievements include leading the high-profile Operation Margate in 2012, which resulted in the conviction of two men for the sexual abuse of children under the guise of a witches’ coven in the 1970s and 1980s. The perpetrators were sentenced to a combined total of 32 years in prison.

Proven Leadership in Truro

From 2016 to 2020, Rick served as the Sector Inspector for Truro, focusing on issues like anti-social behaviour, street drinking, and youth violence. His team played a crucial role in responding to one of the county’s largest heists, the armed robbery at Michael Spiers jewellers in Truro. This incident led to seven significant convictions, with sentences totalling 64 years.

Vision for Falmouth & Helston

In his new role, Rick Milburn expressed his excitement and commitment to improving local policing. “I’m delighted and proud to have the opportunity to become Sector Inspector for Falmouth, Helston, and the surrounding areas. I’m aware that there is already a great policing team in place, but we can’t rest on our laurels, and there are always improvements that we can make to ensure a high standard of service to the public.”

Rick’s immediate priority is to ensure his team listens to the community’s concerns. “My first priority will be to ensure my team are listening; listening to the residents, listening to local businesses and stakeholders so that I can fully understand public concerns and local issues. This way we can work together to tackle them effectively.”

Looking Ahead: A Safe Summer

As summer approaches, Falmouth remains a top destination for holidaymakers and visitors. Rick and his team are dedicated to making the area safe and enjoyable for everyone. The Falmouth Police Station operates from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday. Additionally, the public is invited to attend the next police drop-in surgery at Penryn Library from 10am to 11am on Friday, 28 June, to discuss any issues and get to know the local policing team.
