End of Peak Season Brings Changes to Lifeguard Coverage in Bude

Published On: 1 September 2024Last Updated: 1 September 2024By

As of Monday, 2nd September, Bude RNLI Lifeguards have announced significant changes in their patrols across several beaches in the Bude area. With the conclusion of the peak season on Sunday, 1st September, lifeguard services will no longer be available at two popular locations: Crackington Haven and Northcott Mouth.

Lifeguard Services Continue on Select Bude Beaches

Although lifeguard coverage is being reduced, several beaches in Bude will continue to have RNLI Lifeguard patrols. These include:

  • Sandymouth
  • Crooklets
  • Summerleaze
  • Widemouth
  • Blackrock

With the weather expected to remain favourable, the RNLI strongly advises the public to visit these lifeguarded beaches. Lifeguards play a critical role in ensuring the safety of beachgoers, and their presence is particularly crucial as the number of unpatrolled beaches increases.

Stay Safe: Key Safety Tips for Beachgoers

The RNLI also emphasises the importance of following their guidelines to stay safe in the water. Swimmers and bodyboarders should always stay between the red and yellow flags, which mark the safest areas for these activities.

In the event of trouble in the water, remember the RNLI’s life-saving advice: “float to live.” This involves lying on your back with your ears submerged to conserve energy and stay calm until help arrives. If you see someone in difficulty, it’s vital to act quickly—dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Conclusion of Peak Season

As the peak season comes to an end, these changes highlight the importance of being aware of which beaches remain patrolled in the Bude area. With fewer lifeguards on duty, the RNLI urges everyone to take extra precautions and choose lifeguarded beaches whenever possible.

Stay safe and enjoy the remaining summer days responsibly.
