160 Cleans and Counting: Fistral Beach Volunteers Continue to Make a Difference in Newquay
Fistral Beach Clean reached a milestone with their 160th beach clean yesterday. The event, organised to maintain the beauty and safety of Fistral Beach, saw 16 dedicated volunteers give up part of their Saturday to remove litter from the dunes, the beach, and the surrounding paths.
Efforts Yield Tangible Results
The clean-up resulted in the collection of three bags of litter and a broken body board. The majority of larger litter items were found in the dunes, with volunteers collecting cans, bottles, packaging, and even a disposable BBQ. From the beach itself, nylon cord and microplastics were the primary items removed.
Andy, one of the organisers, expressed gratitude for the support received from both Keep Britain Tidy and Fistral Beach Bar, which helped facilitate the clean-up efforts.
Addressing Safety Concerns
In addition to litter removal, the volunteers identified and marked exposed barbed wire with hazard tape. This safety hazard has been reported to Cormac, for removal to ensure the area remains safe for all visitors.
Community Support and Participation
The event underscores the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation. The collective effort of the volunteers not only improves the aesthetic appeal of Fistral Beach but also contributes to a safer environment for both locals and tourists.
Conclusion
Fistral Beach Clean’s latest effort highlights the significant impact that local volunteers can have on maintaining and protecting natural spaces. With continued support from the community and local businesses, initiatives like these will keep Fistral Beach pristine and enjoyable for everyone. Mahalo to Andy and all the volunteers for their dedication and hard work.
