Lands End Coastguard Called to Cow Charge and Storm Spectacle Near Penzance
On 28th September, the Lands End Coastguard Search & Rescue Team was called to assist a woman who had been injured by a cow while walking along the coast path near Portheras Cove. The coastguard quickly located the injured individual and conducted a thorough assessment. They then accompanied her back to the vehicle before she left with a friend to retrieve her car from further along the coast.
Penzance Promenade Patrol
Later that day, the team joined forces with their Penzance colleagues to conduct a safety patrol along Penzance Promenade. The patrol began at the Wherrytown car park, with teams covering the area from the skatepark to Jubilee Pool. Many members of the public were on-site to witness the impressive storm, and the majority were maintaining a safe distance from the waves, which had begun to pick up large rocks from the beach.
For those venturing out during stormy weather, it’s vital to enjoy the spectacle from a safe distance to avoid potential hazards.
Urgent 999 Call at Newlyn Harbour
The coastguard’s busy day continued as they received an urgent call from Falmouth Coastguard, following a 999 report about someone in the water near the south pier of Newlyn Harbour and Sandy Cove beach. Both teams immediately responded, preparing for a potential snatch rescue.
Upon arrival, team members moved quickly across the beach towards the harbour wall. They soon encountered a man, who confirmed he was the individual from the 999 call and that he was safe and not in distress. With the situation under control, the team was stood down, returning to their station to clean their equipment and get dry.
Stay safe and enjoy the Cornish coast responsibly during stormy weather.
