Unique Bomb Shelter and Parking Space Available in Cornish Auction
Historic bomb shelter with parking space to be sold in auction
A former bomb shelter located in the coastal village of Downderry, near Torpoint, is set to be auctioned with a starting bid of £25,000 plus. The unique property, which boasts sea views and a dedicated parking space, is one of 179 lots available in the upcoming Clive Emson Land and Property Auctioneers sale.
Historic Shelter with Potential for Development
The shelter, situated on Morweth Drive, Top Road, measures 13 metres by 3 metres inside. While it has been previously used as a storage facility, its auction appraiser, James Lofthouse, believes the property could be of interest to buyers looking for a spacious workshop, storeroom, or even those considering future development, subject to planning permissions.
“This is a rare and interesting opportunity,” said James. “The site offers stunning views of the surrounding coastal area, including Rame Head and Looe Island, and easy access to nearby clifftops, beaches, and footpaths.”
The bomb shelter also comes with a long-lease parking space located in the nearby Morweth View car park.
WWII History and Coastal Appeal
The property holds historical significance as Downderry and the surrounding areas were targets for German bombers during World War II. Torpoint, in particular, was a strategic site due to its proximity to Plymouth’s naval base. Downderry itself was once home to a radar station, Chain Home (CH) 15, which was part of the country’s wartime defences.
The area’s rich history, combined with its scenic coastal location, may appeal to potential buyers with an eye for both heritage and natural beauty. The shelter’s position in the sought-after South East Cornish coastline ensures stunning views and access to popular walking routes along the cliffs.

The bomb shelter is part of Clive Emson’s latest auction, which will take place from Monday, 16 September to Wednesday, 18 September. Bidders are advised to visit Clive Emson’s website for more details on the property and other lots available in the auction.
