Breage Primary School Rallies Community for Chance to Win Eco-Friendly Playground
Breage C of E Primary School has entered a nationwide competition to win a playground made entirely from recycled materials, and they’re asking for community support. The school, located in Breage, is taking part in the Sistema® Recycled Playground Contest, which runs from 12th September until 18th December 2024. The goal? Collect the most used plastic food storage containers, lids, reusable plastic water bottles, and caps to secure a playground with a frame crafted from 100% recycled waste.
How the Community Can Help
Residents of Breage and nearby areas can contribute by dropping off their used plastic food storage containers and lids, as well as reusable plastic bottles and caps. Breage Primary has set up a public collection box in the school’s bin compound, accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Donations can also be dropped off at the school office during regular hours or at Breage Post Office on Higher Road.
Lisa, Holliehead, Head of School for Breage C of E Primary School, encouraged the community’s involvement, saying, “We’re thrilled to be participating in this great contest from Sistema and we are calling on members of the Breage community and beyond to help us be in with a chance of winning a brand-new playground with a frame made from 100% recycled waste.” She emphasised that the collection point outside Reception is open all day, every day, and also welcomed donations at the school office and Breage Post Office. “This really is a great opportunity that will not only help our school but also our environment, whilst educating our pupils and the local community on the importance of recycling,” Lisa added.
About the Sistema® Recycled Playground Contest
The Sistema® Recycled Playground Contest is part of a partnership between Sistema®, known for their sustainable food storage products, and TerraCycle, a global leader in recycling solutions. Primary schools participating in the contest are part of Sistema’s Food Storage Container and Reusable Bottle Free Recycling Programme, which allows them to recycle plastics that are often excluded from conventional kerbside collections.
The school that collects the most waste during the competition period will win a playground featuring two slides, a ramp with rope, and a large platform. Additionally, both the winning and runner-up schools will receive a Sistema lunchbox and water bottle for each pupil. Winners are set to be announced in January 2025.
