Try a Beryl E-Bike for Free: Week-Long Offer Aims to Get Cornwall Pedalling
E-bike users across Cornwall will be able to take advantage of free rides next week, thanks to a partnership between shared transport operator Beryl and Cornwall Council.
What’s on Offer?
From Monday 13th January to Sunday 19th January 2025, Beryl is offering one free 15-minute ride and a waived unlocking fee per day to riders in Penzance, Penryn, Truro, and Newquay. Any time over the free 15 minutes will be charged at standard rates.
The discount will be automatically applied at the end of the trip, making it easier than ever to test out the service.
Why Try an E-Bike?
Beryl Scheme Lead for Plymouth, Kate Palmer, highlighted the benefits of the e-bikes:
“Our e-bikes are a fantastic way to get around, and the extra power that they provide can make the county’s occasionally hilly terrain more accessible to some riders and allow them to undertake longer journeys.
“They’re also great for commuting as, by picking up the extra slack, the electric assistance can help you arrive at work looking and feeling as fresh as when you first set off.
“By swapping the car for an e-bike journey, you’re not only boosting your own health and fitness, you’re also contributing towards reducing traffic congestion and improving regional air quality.
“So with a week of free rides and unlocks, there has never been a better time to try it out.”
Cornwall’s E-Bike Journey
Since launching in Falmouth in September 2022, Beryl’s e-bikes have proven popular, clocking up nearly 275,000 rides and covering almost 700,000 km—the equivalent of 17 trips around the Earth.
Feedback from users shows that nearly a quarter of all trips have replaced private vehicle journeys, helping save over 23 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
How to Pay After the Free Ride
For riders continuing after the promotion, there are multiple payment options available:
- Pay As You Ride – Ideal for single or occasional trips. Riders pay £1 unlocking fee plus 15p per minute.
- Minute Bundles – Great for regular riders, with packages starting at 100 minutes for £15, with no unlocking fees.
Easy to Get Started
The Beryl app is available to download for free on the App Store for iOS and Google Play Store for Android users.
This promotion aims to encourage more people to embrace sustainable transport, so whether you’re commuting, sightseeing, or running errands, now is the perfect time to experience the convenience and health benefits of Cornwall’s e-bike network.
