Cornwall Joins Nationwide Walk for Wellbeing – Here’s How You Can Get Involved
A major fundraising event for hospitality workers is coming to Cornwall for the first time
Walk for Wellbeing, the annual fundraising event by UK charity Hospitality Action, is expanding this year, with Cornwall among five new locations joining the movement. The event, which aims to promote mental health and wellbeing in the hospitality industry, will see thirteen 20km hosted walks take place across the UK this October.
A Growing Nationwide Event
Since its launch in 2020, Walk for Wellbeing has grown from a small gathering into a national effort, uniting hospitality professionals and supporters to take proactive steps for their wellbeing while raising funds for colleagues facing tough times. The event is backed by hospitality talent and recruitment partner mum, in partnership with Caterer.com and Imperial London Hotels.
This year, Cornwall joins Edinburgh, Leeds, Newcastle and York as the newest locations, bringing the total number of host cities to thirteen. Walks will be held on set dates throughout October, with York kicking off the first walk on Sunday 12th October. Cornwall’s turn comes on Sunday 19th October, alongside Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, and Manchester, before Newcastle hosts the final walk on Monday 20th October.
Walk for Wellbeing Arrives in Cornwall
The Lost Gardens of Heligan will host Cornwall’s first Walk for Wellbeing, providing a stunning backdrop for the event.
Louise Eade, Head of Hospitality at The Lost Gardens of Heligan, highlighted the importance of supporting the hospitality industry, saying:
“Like many of us, hospitality workers experience setbacks, and Hospitality Action plays a vital role in helping them get back on their feet with advice and support. Each year, thousands of individuals are helped through challenging times, and the team at Heligan is proud to support the charity’s annual fundraising event to raise awareness.”
Mark Lewis, CEO of Hospitality Action, welcomed the addition of Cornwall, stating:
“We are delighted to be working with The Lost Gardens of Heligan for Cornwall’s first hosted Walk for Wellbeing. With a strong presence in the city’s hospitality sector, and extensive industry connections, they are instrumental in expanding vital support for the event. Together, we’re creating even more opportunities for hospitality professionals to take part, connect and make a meaningful impact in their communities.”
Can’t Attend a Hosted Walk? Walk It Your Way
For those unable to join one of the city-hosted walks, there’s an alternative. ‘Walk It Your Way’ allows participants to take part anytime between World Mental Health Day on Friday 10th October and Sunday 26th October. Whether walking alone or with friends, family, colleagues, or even pets, participants can choose their own route and distance.
How to Take Part
Anyone interested in joining the Walk for Wellbeing, either in Cornwall or elsewhere, can find more information and register at www.walkforwellbeing.org.
With Cornwall now on board, more hospitality professionals and supporters have the chance to take part in this growing event, helping to raise funds and awareness for those in need.
