Cycle enthusiasts are invited to tackle a cumulative 450 miles across the nation’s most beautiful forest trails, from the rugged landscapes of Kielder Forest in Northumberland to the serene paths of Cardinham Woods in Cornwall.

The Challenge

The Forest 450 Challenge offers cyclists and mountain bikers the chance to embark on a unique journey, covering 450 miles entirely on Forestry England’s scenic cycle trails. Participants have until the end of October 2024 to complete the miles, providing a flexible yet thrilling adventure that promotes fitness and a love for the outdoors.

Choose Your Adventure

Cyclists can approach the challenge in any manner they prefer—be it short daily rides or fewer, longer expeditions. The aim is to explore local familiar routes or discover new trails further afield in an effort to complete the 450-mile target. Whether solo or with friends and family, the challenge caters to all levels of cycling enthusiasts who are keen to test their limits and enjoy the beauty of England’s forests.

Trails to Explore

Forestry England has highlighted some ideal routes to help participants accumulate their miles:

  1. Lakeside Way, Kielder Forest, Northumberland – Start with a scenic ride alongside the lake, enjoying wildlife and vistas.
  2. Jubilee Blue Trail, Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire – Perfect for lovers of flowing tracks and beautiful valley views.
  3. Beater Trail, High Lodge, Thetford Forest, Norfolk – Tackle challenging paths filled with natural obstacles.
  4. Robin Hood Adventure Cycle Trail, Sherwood Pines, Nottinghamshire – A dynamic trail designed to improve riding skills over seven thrilling miles.
  5. Shipwright’s Way Trail, Alice Holt Forest, Surrey – Enjoy extensive rides through stunning countryside.
  6. Bodmin Beast Trail, Cardinham Woods, Cornwall – Finish the challenge on high-intensity tracks offering exhilarating rides.

Prizes and Perks

Upon completing the Forest 450, participants can claim a finisher’s medal to celebrate their achievement. The registration fees and proceeds from the medals contribute directly to forest conservation efforts managed by Forestry England.

Moreover, one lucky finisher will win a grand prize bundle worth £1,000, which includes:

  • £500 to spend at Fox Racing UK
  • £150 towards a stay with Forest Holidays
  • £100 Go Ape voucher
  • A year-long Forestry England membership and a goodie bag

Two runners-up will also receive prizes including £100 to spend at Fox Racing UK and a Forestry England membership.
