Teen Beach Party Stopped and Knife Arrest Made During Hayle Police Crackdown

A planned beach gathering involving up to 200 young people was disrupted by police in Hayle last weekend, during a wider operation targeting antisocial behaviour in the town.

Officers out in force on 3rd May

The operation took place on the evening of Saturday 3rd May, with both uniformed and plain-clothed officers patrolling key locations to tackle disorder and provide reassurance to the public.

“Antisocial behaviour, in whatever form, can cause worry and concern within our community,” said Sergeant Michael Friday, who led the patrol. “It was important for us to send a message to the public that this behaviour will not be tolerated – our officers are on the streets ready to pursue offenders.”

Unconnected incidents during operation

As part of the evening’s work, a 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing a knife and a public order offence. He has been remanded on conditional bail and is due in court in June.

In a separate incident, officers received reports of a planned beach party, which could have seen up to 200 young people, including under-18s, gathering in the area. Police attended the scene and successfully prevented the event from going ahead.

“Events like these previously caused disruptions for residents, who were impacted by noise, littering, and raised concerns for welfare of young attendees,” said Inspector Dee Evans, who leads the neighbourhood policing team. “Preventing this event from going ahead was a positive outcome for the community.”

Ongoing efforts this summer

Police say these proactive patrols will continue through the summer as public spaces become busier.

“I’m pleased we were able to take proactive steps to address antisocial behaviour,” Inspector Dee added. “We are committed to making Hayle a hostile environment for those who intend on causing harm, while ensuring the town remains a safe and welcoming place for residents and visitors alike.”

Officers also dealt with two young men causing disruption in a local supermarket and issued dispersal orders.

Public urged to report concerns

The operation was a joint effort by the local Neighbourhood Police team and the Cornwall Neighbourhood Support team, forming part of an ongoing strategy to tackle antisocial behaviour through intelligence-led patrols.

Knife crime remains rare in Devon and Cornwall, but police say they are continuing to take it seriously and aim to remove weapons from the streets.

Anyone with information is urged to report it via the Devon & Cornwall Police website or by calling 101. For crimes in progress, call 999.

Reports can also be made anonymously through Crimestoppers or on 0800 555111.
