Cornish Schoolgirl Paddles to School and Raises £5,000 for Hayle Surf Life Saving Club
Elsie Berriman’s ambitious paddleboard challenge has successfully surpassed its £5,000 fundraising target, with the total now standing at an impressive £5,080. The 15-year-old schoolgirl from Hayle paddled two miles across the bay to Carbis Bay every school day for two weeks to raise money for Hayle Surf Life Saving Club.
Reaching the Goal
Elsie’s determination and dedication have paid off, not only completing her challenging journey but also exceeding her fundraising goal. Initially aiming for £5,000, she is delighted to have surpassed that figure, reaching £5,080. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her, sharing the news of her achievement with her followers.
A Memorable Finish
The final day of her challenge, Friday 22 September, was marked by a surprise gathering. Youth members, coaches, and many younger club members known as “nippers” joined her on the water to paddle alongside her. Elsie was overwhelmed by the support and described the morning as an unforgettable experience.
Supporting Hayle Surf Life Saving Club
The funds raised will help Hayle Surf Life Saving Club purchase new equipment and maintain its facilities. The club, which has been steadily growing, plays a crucial role in teaching young people how to be safe in the sea and competing in surf lifesaving competitions across the country.
For those who still wish to contribute, donations can be made via her JustGiving page to continue supporting the club’s important work.
