Balaclavas, Booze and Beach Parties: What Really Happened in Hayle

A beach party in Hayle sparked a police operation last night following a flood of rumours on local social media – but officers say there were no signs of violence or weapons.

Police Operation on Hayle Beach

Hayle Police confirmed they were involved in a pre-planned operation aimed at ensuring the safety of teenagers attending a beach party on Hayle Beach. Officers engaged with young people at the scene and seized alcohol, which was then tipped away.

Social Media Claims Investigated

Despite multiple posts circulating on social media suggesting a large group of teenagers were arriving by train armed with knives and wearing balaclavas, police say these reports were unfounded.

“One post in particular mentioned over 100 children on a train from Camborne, some wearing balaclavas and having knives,” officers said. “This train was met by officers and between 35 and 40 children alighted, none of whom raised any suspicions that would give rise to the lawful use of a stop search power.”

Police Urge Public to Report Directly

Police reminded the public to report incidents directly to them rather than posting on social media.

“We would like to remind people, again, that if they wish to report a crime, Anti Social Behaviour etc then they should do this to the police, not to Facebook.”

Crimes or anti-social behaviour can be reported online via the Devon & Cornwall Police website, or by calling 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-emergencies.
