In a remarkable demonstration of skill and prompt response, the volunteer crew of Fowey’s all-weather lifeboat launched a daring rescue operation on the afternoon of 12 May.
At precisely 5:14 pm, the team was dispatched to assist three individuals aboard a 17ft Dory that had experienced mechanical failure near Lantivet Bay.
Lifeboat Heroes to the Rescue
Upon arriving at the scene, the lifeboat crew, led by Cox Jonathan, discovered that the distressed vessel was securely anchored. However, the crew of the boat had made their way to a nearby beach, which was only accessible from the sea. This prompted Jonathan to deploy the small XP inflatable boat carried on the lifeboat to allow a closer investigation of the situation.
Lifeboat members James and Graham manned the XP boat and headed towards the shore. There, they found the three stranded individuals safe and without injury. The decision was then made to transfer them back to the safety of the all-weather lifeboat.
Successful Recovery and Return
Following the successful transfer of the casualties, James and Graham returned to the anchored Dory, where they managed to restart its engine. Under the escort of the all-weather lifeboat, the now functional Dory and its crew were safely returned to Fowey.
The operation concluded smoothly, with all involved safe and the vessel back in the hands of its crew, highlighting the crucial role played by the volunteer lifeboat team in ensuring the safety of sea-goers in their community.
