Fowey’s Lifeboat Volunteer Recognised: Chris Ogg Earns RNLI ‘Excellence in Volunteering Award
In recognition of his exemplary commitment and leadership, Chris Ogg, Fowey Lifeboat Operations Manager, has been awarded the RNLI ‘Excellence in Volunteering Award’ by the RNLI Council. The honour highlights Chris’s dedication to supporting the crew and maintaining Fowey’s lifeboat station during challenging times.
Dedication in Challenging Times
The award certificate commended Chris for his “outstanding leadership, dedication and experience,” which has been instrumental in upholding the station’s lifesaving operations. His commitment has fostered a supportive environment for the crew and has been a cornerstone in ensuring the station’s readiness to serve the community. The certificate further acknowledged Chris’s embodiment of the RNLI values: trustworthiness, courage, selflessness, and dependability.
A Lifelong Commitment
Chris, who has served as Lifeboat Operations Manager and Launch Authority at Fowey for over eight years, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. “I am honoured to have received the award from the RNLI,” he said. “We have a great team of volunteers here at Fowey lifeboat station, with a core of 32 crew, supported by dozens of people fundraising, running the shop and lifeboat tours, PR, launch authorities and support staff.”
Chris credited the collective effort of the entire Fowey lifeboat team, sharing the recognition with the volunteers who “went the extra mile” to support him. “Everyone gives up their time for free and it is a pleasure to work with and manage such a dedicated team of people, so that we can provide a 24/7 lifesaving service to our local community,” he added.
Volunteering for a Lifesaving Cause
For those inspired by Chris’s dedication, the RNLI is always looking for more volunteers to help support their mission. Information on how to get involved with the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea, is available here.
