On 27th July 2024, at 15:40 hours, a dramatic rescue operation unfolded near Penleath Point involving multiple emergency services. The St Austell Coastguard team was dispatched to assist their flanking team, Polruan Coastguard, and the Fowey RNLI in rescuing a casualty in distress.

Coordinated Effort

The St Austell Coastguard vehicle travelled by ferry to Bodinnick, while additional team members were transported across by the Fowey Harbour Patrol. Upon arrival at the scene, HM Coastguard took over the casualty care from the lifeboat crew, maintaining the casualty’s condition until the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust arrived.

Challenging Conditions

Due to the location’s challenging terrain, a stretcher carry out was deemed the best course of action for the casualty. This decision required a joint effort from all responders, highlighting the coordination and teamwork among the emergency services.

Best Wishes for Recovery

The emergency services involved in the operation extended their best wishes to the casualty for a full and speedy recovery. The incident underscores the importance of prompt and coordinated responses in coastal emergencies.

Reminder to the Public

In light of the incident, the St Austell Coastguard reminds the public to call 999 and ask for the coastguard in any coastal emergency. Their swift response and teamwork can make all the difference in saving lives.
