A substantial donation of £10,000 was made to the Fowey branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), courtesy of Mrs Rosalyn Pring.

The generous gift, dedicated to the memory of her late husband, will significantly enhance the training and equipment available to local volunteer crew members, ensuring they remain ready to tackle emergencies at sea.

A Lasting Legacy

During her visit to the Fowey lifeboat station this past Sunday, Rosalyn, accompanied by her son John, expressed her enduring support for the RNLI—a sentiment deeply rooted in her family’s history. “This donation is given to RNLI Fowey in memory of my husband, John Pring. He loved and visited this place for over 50 years,” Rosalyn shared.

Vital Support for Lifesavers

The donation will cover the cost of a complete set of lifesaving gear for one crew member, which includes a drysuit, thermal suit, lifejacket, helmet, layered clothing, and boots. In addition, the funds will provide for Crew Emergency Procedures (CEP) training courses. Jonathan Pritchard, the Coxswain of the Fowey lifeboat, detailed the critical skills that the training will impart: “The three-day CEP course at the RNLI training college in Poole trains crew in a range of emergency procedures including sea survival drills, fire handling, capsizing protocols, and team survival swimming.”

Jonathan also expressed his gratitude, stating, “We are extremely grateful for the generosity of Mrs. Pring. It is donations like these that enable us to keep the station running.”

About Fowey RNLI

The RNLI is a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea and relies heavily on voluntary donations to maintain its fleet of lifeboats and train its crews. The Fowey lifeboat station, staffed by 32 volunteer crew members, provides a crucial 24-hour search and rescue service along the coast in and around Fowey.

This remarkable donation not only commemorates a beloved community figure but also ensures that Fowey’s RNLI volunteers are well-equipped to continue their brave and vital work.
