Wrecking Coast’s Refresh: New Look, Same Iconic Cornish Taste
Tintagel-based distillery, Wrecking Coast, known for its award-winning spirits, has relaunched its brand with a fresh new look while maintaining its signature taste. With sustainability at its heart, the revamped packaging is a nod to Cornwall’s rugged shores and maritime heritage.
A New Design Inspired by the Sea
Wrecking Coast’s new bottle design has moved away from its original branding, embracing a more sea-inspired, distressed appearance. This design choice reflects both the brand’s coastal roots and its name, capturing the spirit of legendary shipwrecks and the dramatic Cornish landscape.
Eco-Friendly Packaging
Wrecking Coast’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its packaging. The new bottle is crafted from Wild Flint Glass, composed entirely of 100% post-consumer recycled content (PCR). The environmentally conscious approach extends to the innovative Corkcoal stopper, a blend of cork and activated charcoal, which is recognised as the most sustainable option on the market. This stopper ensures no cork taint and prevents colour transfer to the spirit.
Paul Barber, Managing Director of Stargazey Spirits Ltd, the parent company of Wrecking Coast, explained: “Wrecking Coast really is a true taste of the Cornish coastline and with this relaunch, we’re not only staying true to the heritage and taste of the distillery and brand but also taking steps to ensure our packaging is environmentally responsible. To cut our carbon footprint we have reduced the weight of our glass by over 400 grams.”
Distilling Cornwall’s Essence
Despite the visual transformation, fans of Wrecking Coast can rest assured that the taste remains unchanged. The distillery’s spirits are crafted using Cornish Spring water and locally harvested botanicals. Among its popular offerings is the renowned Clotted Cream Gin, made with fresh Cornish clotted cream.
The current lineup includes seven small-batch spirits: Clotted Cream Gin, London Dry Gin, Scurvy Navy Strength Gin, Summer Strawberry Gin, Honey Sloe Gin, Kea Plum Rum, and White Spiced Rum. Limited-edition barrel-aged spirits are set to follow.
An Innovative New Rum
Paul shared his excitement about their latest product: “We are very excited to have launched our first White Spiced Rum. This is an incredibly innovative product that we know will appeal to rum drinkers. A spiced rum typically has a rich amber colour, but we have managed to achieve a totally clear product, that doesn’t compromise on taste. So much so that it won a Silver Medal for Spirit Excellence from the American Distilling Institute.”
