St Austell Brewery’s Anthem Pale Ale Hits Tesco Shelves Nationwide
A British-Brewed Classic Now Available in Over 650 Supermarkets
St Austell Brewery has launched Anthem, a 3.4% ABV British session pale ale, nationwide in supermarkets for the first time. Beer lovers across the UK, from Penzance to Shetland, can now enjoy the Cornish brewer’s refreshing pale ale at home in cans.
Previously only available in cask (3.8% ABV) across St Austell Brewery’s pub estate in the South West and independent pubs since 2022, Anthem (4x440ml) is now stocked in over 650 Tesco stores and available via St Austell Brewery’s online shop.
A Milestone for St Austell Brewery
The launch marks a significant moment in the independent brewery’s 174-year history, with Anthem joining its growing range of lower-alcohol beers. It sits alongside Proper Job 0.5% IPA and Cornish Best (3.4%) in a portfolio catering to those looking for lighter options without compromising on flavour.
Brewing Director Georgina Young, who crafted the beer, expressed her excitement about its expansion beyond the pub taps:
“We’re delighted to see Anthem join the ranks of Tribute, Proper Job, and korev as part of our fantastic beer portfolio, now available for people to enjoy at home.
“This beautifully light pale ale is bursting with juicy tropical notes of mango, peach, and apricot. With its slightly lower ABV of 3.4% in cans, it’s an easy-drinking, sessionable beer made with quality British ingredients – and despite the lower ABV, it doesn’t compromise on flavour.”
Proudly British Ingredients
Anthem is brewed using 100% British ingredients, including malted barley from Cornwall and East Anglia, along with Golden Naked Oats from Northamptonshire. The beer is packed with vibrant, fruit-forward flavours, thanks to four UK-grown hop varieties: Target, Olicana, Jester, and Harlequin.
Georgina highlighted the importance of supporting local suppliers:
“We’re especially proud of Anthem’s all-British lineup of ingredients. We work closely with our trusted network of suppliers to ensure we’re using the finest raw ingredients, showcasing the best of British brewing. The hops are exciting English varieties that emulate the juicy hop characteristics often associated with US beers. By sourcing our ingredients locally, we also support our sustainability efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our brewing operations.”
Expanding Availability
First introduced in 2022 in cask form, Anthem (ABV 3.8%) remains available in select St Austell Brewery-managed pubs across the West Country for those who prefer a pint at the bar.
The brewery is also launching korev (4.8%), its flagship lager, in a new 10x440ml can format, available regionally.
With Anthem’s nationwide release, St Austell Brewery continues to expand its presence, bringing its heritage and passion for brewing to more beer lovers across the UK.
