Celebrating 30 years of brewing success, Sharp’s Brewing Co in Rock has released its final limited-edition beer for 2024, Gulland Rock. This unique red IPA has been crafted in partnership with The Mariners in Rock and Paul Ainsworth at No6 in Padstow, both part of the Paul Ainsworth collection.
A Collaborative Creation
The recipe for Gulland Rock was developed by Sharp’s Brewing Co’s Technical Brewing Optimisation Manager, Jon Wide, alongside Hospitality and Retail Manager, Sam Lyne, with Michael Faraway and Liam Evans of The Mariners and Loren Cooper of Paul Ainsworth at No6. Loren and Michael even joined the brewing process, working at Sharp’s pilot plant to bring the vision to life.
Gulland Rock combines five different malts with new world hops for a dark, malty brew with a fruity aroma of stone fruit. Cherry purée added during the brewing process enhances its malty sweetness. The name pays homage to Gulland Rock, the largest of three islands off the Camel estuary, and nods to the brewery’s ruby red IPA, Wolf Rock, which inspired its style.
Jon said: “We had a fantastic time developing and brewing Gulland Rock with our friends from The Mariners and Paul Ainsworth at No6. It’s always so much fun and informative for all involved. Gulland Rock will only be available for a limited time but is well worth trying. It’s got a lovely fruity aroma and full, ripe sweet taste and with its deep red hue, it looks really great in the glass.”
Now Available to Enjoy
Gulland Rock became available on Monday 16th December 2024 and can now be enjoyed at:
- The Mariners, Rock
- Paul Ainsworth at No6, Padstow
- The Blisland Inn, Bodmin
- The Front, Falmouth
- The Brendon Arms, Bude
Mini casks are also available for purchase directly from Sharp’s Brewing Co’s shop and online at Sharp’s Brewery.
Driving Innovation in Brewing
Since opening a dedicated small-scale pilot plant in 2016, Sharp’s has produced over 50 beers, fostering creativity and innovation within the team. The pilot plant allows Sharp’s to experiment with new flavours and concepts, complementing its main brewhouse, which produces over a million pints weekly.
Sharp’s investment in the pilot plant has recently expanded its capacity and upgraded equipment, allowing for even greater experimentation. Gulland Rock represents the culmination of these efforts for 2024, offering a rich, malty red IPA for beer enthusiasts to enjoy.
