Free Allergen Awareness Session for Cornwall’s Food Industry – Join the Council’s Online Event!

Cornwall Council is hosting a free, online allergen awareness session tailored for the food and hospitality sector on Wednesday, 30th October. With increasing regulatory demands around allergens, this event aims to equip local businesses with vital information to ensure they meet UK compliance standards while prioritising customer safety.

Compliance Demystified: Allergen Awareness

This 45-minute session, titled “Compliance Demystified: Allergen Awareness,” will run from 10:00 am to 10:45 am and is led by the council’s Trading Standards team. Participants will receive comprehensive guidance on key aspects of allergen management, ranging from identifying allergens to communicating risks with customers.

The event will cover:

  • Understanding Allergens: Guidance on the 14 main allergens and recognising them within food products and menus.
  • Legal Obligations: An overview of the allergen laws applicable in the UK, focusing on the specific requirements for businesses in food service.
  • Allergen Management: Practical steps for effective allergen control in all areas, including ingredient sourcing, food preparation, and service.
  • Labelling and Communication: Strategies for clear allergen communication to customers.
  • Case Studies: Insights from real-world examples, highlighting businesses that have navigated allergen regulations effectively.

Open to Cornwall’s Food Service Professionals

The session is open to anyone working within the food industry, including restaurant owners, café operators, food producers, caterers, and retailers. In addition to learning best practices, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss challenges with Trading Standards experts.
