Cornish Brewery Celebrates Major Award Wins with Community Bash

A Cornish brewery has marked its recent success with the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) by hosting an event that united beer lovers and the local community.

Treen’s Brewery Recognised by CAMRA

Treen’s Brewery, based in Ponsanooth, celebrated its national and regional CAMRA awards at The Stag Hunt, the village’s local pub, on Saturday. The pub, which serves as the brewery’s official taproom, consistently offers four or five of Treen’s brews. Customers can also drop by on Fridays to pick up pre-ordered take-outs.

“We trialled it and it seemed to go down well,” said Sarah Treen, who runs the brewery with her husband, Simon. Alongside the beer, the local shop has started offering pizza deliveries to the pub, creating a thriving enterprise for Ponsanooth.

CAMRA Success for Treen’s

Treen’s Brewery scooped a national CAMRA award for their ale Smoulder, a ruby, slightly fruity brew with a hint of wood smoke, which is particularly popular in the autumn.

On the regional front, Treen’s won silver for Cloud Cuckoo in the South West judging for Champion Beer of Britain. This full-bodied, malty winter ale has consistently helped the brewery achieve annual awards since its founding eight years ago. Bronze went to their dark brew Resolve, which offers strong chocolate and coffee notes.

Celebrations at The Stag Hunt

The Stag Hunt, formerly a tied house but now a freehold, proved to be the perfect setting for the celebrations. The pub’s popularity, driven by session brews like Sunbeam and Classic, made it a hub for locals and CAMRA members on Saturday, all eager to congratulate Simon and Sarah.

The awards were presented by Vince Curtis, CAMRA’s brewery liaison officer for Treen’s Brewery, highlighting the brewery’s ongoing success in the competitive world of real ale.
