Thousands Gather in St Austell for a Great Cause

In November, the historic Victorian cellars of St Austell Brewery came alive as thousands of beer enthusiasts descended on the site for the annual Celtic Beer Festival. With over 100 beers from more than 50 UK breweries on offer, attendees were treated to a day-long celebration of live music and exceptional brews, all while raising an impressive £12,000 for charity.

The beers, generously donated by breweries across the UK, were served across five bustling bars, adding to the vibrant atmosphere that saw over 1,300 attendees come together in the spirit of community and giving.

Supporting Vital Causes Across the South West

The funds raised will go to the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust, a longstanding organisation that supports causes and individuals in need throughout the South West. Since its establishment in 2003, the Trust has raised over £1,000,000, helping to fund a range of initiatives, including youth mental health services, the air ambulance, and local families in need of support or specialist equipment.

In 2024 alone, the Trust donated more than £95,000 to various vital causes, reinforcing its commitment to making a difference.

A Calendar Highlight for Charity and Beer Lovers

Brewing Director Georgina Young described the event as a standout occasion for the brewery, saying:
“The 23rd Celtic Beer Festival was a highlight in our calendar where we all get together to celebrate every wonderful style of beer out there, from porters to sours, lagers to seaweed-salted bitters. There was something new for everyone to try.

“What’s more, it was all for a great cause, with the money raised going back to brilliant causes across the South West via our Charitable Trust.”

The Celtic Beer Festival is the Trust’s flagship fundraiser, complemented by additional efforts such as pub quizzes, sponsored walks, and a charity gala that recently raised £47,000 through a silent auction. Team members across the brewery’s 160+ pubs also contribute to the fundraising efforts, taking part in various challenges throughout the year.

Apply for Support From the Trust

The St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust welcomes applications year-round from individuals and organisations across the South West, from Cornwall to Somerset. Past donations have funded vital equipment for people with disabilities and provided an adaptive surf wheelchair for a water charity in Bude.

Those seeking support for local campaigns or personal needs are encouraged to apply by visiting the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust’s website.

By blending the love of beer with the spirit of giving, the Celtic Beer Festival continues to make a lasting impact across the region.
