Who Will Light Up Falmouth? Nominations Open for Christmas Lights Switch-On

Published On: 24 October 2024Last Updated: 24 October 2024By

Nominations have officially opened for Falmouth’s much-anticipated Christmas Lights Switch-On, set to take place on Thursday, 28th November 2024. The Town Team is once again offering the opportunity for a deserving individual or community group to illuminate the town in front of hundreds of onlookers.

Nominate a Local Hero

Residents are invited to nominate local heroes—whether it’s a dedicated volunteer, an inspiring young person, or someone who has quietly made a significant impact on the community. The chosen person or group will take centre stage at the event, marking the start of Falmouth’s festive season.

To nominate someone, email Ruth at ruth@falmouth.co.uk or call 01326 313553 before midday on Thursday, 21st November. Make sure to include the nominee’s name, a brief explanation of why they deserve to be recognised, and their contact details. The successful nominee must be available from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm on the night of the switch-on.

A Night of Festive Fun

The event will kick off at 5:30 pm with a performance by Sing Choir, setting a festive tone on The Moor. At 5:40 pm, a parade featuring local school children, led by Kernow Pipes and Drums, will make its way through the streets, starting at Events Square and ending on The Moor.

As the crowd gathers, local schools will take to the stage to perform carols and Christmas songs from 6:15 pm. The big moment will arrive at 7:00 pm when the lucky nominee switches on the lights, followed by a performance from Rock Choir to round off the evening.

Falmouth Town Manager, Richard Gates, expressed his excitement, saying: “The Christmas Lights Switch-On brings the community together by celebrating those that make Falmouth such a special place to live or work. By nominating local heroes, we hope to shine a light on their contributions to the town and give them the recognition they deserve. We look forward to receiving nominations and sharing the festive spirit with everyone on the 28th of November!”
