The HM Coastguard in Falmouth is currently conducting an intensive search operation along the Cornish coastline following the activation of an unregistered emergency distress beacon (EPIRB) earlier today.

Authorities are urgently seeking information that can lead them to the owner of the beacon, which was triggered around 1pm.

Beacon Mystery Sparks Concern

The distress signal, which does not have any registered contact details due to its unregistered status, has prompted fears of potential danger to the beacon’s owner. The specific beacon number identified is HEX ID 9D0E1D1A3000001. The uncertainty surrounding whether the activation was accidental or a genuine emergency has intensified the urgency of the coastguard’s response.

Search Efforts and Public Appeal

Lifeboats have been deployed to scour the area stretching from Newquay to Falmouth, in an effort to locate any signs of distress or clues that could shed light on the situation. Margaret, the Senior Maritime Operations Officer at HM Coastguard in Falmouth, stressed the importance of the public’s assistance: “We’re making an urgent appeal to find the owner of a beacon so if you know anyone who may have set one off in Cornwall, please contact us. Emergency crews are out searching and we would really like any information we can to help us in our search.”

How You Can Help

Anyone with information about the beacon or its owner, or anyone who might have accidentally activated a beacon, is encouraged to contact the HM Coastguard at Falmouth immediately. The contact number is 01326 317575. Every piece of information is vital and could potentially help resolve the situation swiftly and ensure the safety of the beacon’s owner.
