Princess Pavilion Welcomes Starsailor on 18th November

Starsailor is set to perform at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth on Monday, 18th November, with supporting act The Wyldest. Fans will get a chance to experience the band’s latest work, Where The Wild Things Grow, an album that lead vocalist and guitarist James Walsh considers a standout in their career. The album, produced by Rick McNamara, draws from influences as varied as Nick Drake and Teenage Fanclub, marking yet another chapter in Starsailor’s storied journey.

A Legacy in British Music

Formed around the turn of the millennium, Starsailor quickly became a prominent name, especially with the release of Love Is Here in 2001. Produced by Steve Osborne at the famed Rockfield Studios, the album reached No. 2 in the UK charts and sold over a million copies. With critical acclaim from the Guardian, which called it “an intricately produced tempest of a record,” and comparisons to Coldplay and Travis, Starsailor soon made waves in the British music scene. Notable hits from their career include Silence Is Easy, which reached No. 9 in the UK and remains a fan favourite.

A Rollercoaster Partnership with Phil Spector

During the production of their second album, Starsailor famously collaborated with Phil Spector. While initially productive—yielding tracks like Silence Is Easy and White Dove—the sessions took a challenging turn, leading the band to complete the album with producers Danton Supple and John Leckie. Reflecting on this experience, James noted, “It was a huge honour to work with him at the time, but it feels different now.” Despite these hurdles, Silence Is Easy emerged as a critical success.

Memorable Moments and Global Appearances

Following their third album, On The Outside, produced by Rob Schnapf, Starsailor performed at major festivals, including Hyde Park Calling and V Festival in 2006, and even shared the stage with The Rolling Stones during their European tour. By 2009, the band released All The Plans, an album hailed as a return to form and featuring the legendary Ronnie Wood on the title track. After a hiatus and a Greatest Hits collection in 2015, the band released All This Life in 2017, signalling their sustained passion for creating music.

New Album and Tour

With Where The Wild Things Grow, Starsailor explores themes of love, hope, and resilience. The album, described by James as a collection of “worldly treats,” includes standout tracks like Heavyweight, a love song infused with boxing metaphors, and Dead On The Money, capturing the struggle and hope of pursuing the right path. Other tracks, such as Flowers, were inspired by moments of beauty in adversity—like a flower seller in Aleppo who continued his work amid the chaos.

Catch Starsailor live at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth on 18th November for a night celebrating not only their latest work but also a career that has shaped British music over the last two decades.
