Run Falmouth Half Marathon Sees Record-Breaking Turnout and New Course Best
Record numbers and a new fastest time at Cornwall Hospice Care’s Run Falmouth
This year’s Run Falmouth half marathon saw record numbers take to the streets on Sunday, 16th March, with 950 runners signed up for the event organised by Cornwall Hospice Care. A total of 798 runners set off on a breezy but sunny morning, making it the biggest turnout yet for the race.

New Course Record Set
Steve Reynolds, representing Truro Running Club, stormed to victory with a time of 1 hour 13 minutes, setting a new record for the current course. Steve, who previously won the event in 2023 with a time of 1:16:56, led from the start and crossed the finish line with a commanding lead.
“I’m delighted, it’s a tough course in places but I know the 13.1-mile route and hoped I could set a good pace,” he said after securing his win.
Steve finished more than four minutes ahead of second-placed Ed Dickinson from Falmouth Running Club, who completed the race in 1:17:34. Ronnie Haynes, running for Erme Valley Harriers, took third place with a time of 1:18:15.
First Woman Home
The first woman to finish was Sarah Hoskin from Mile High, who clocked a time of 1:25:34.
“It’s certainly a tough course with some spectacular uphill parts but I enjoyed it,” Sarah said. “There were a few times when there was a headwind, but otherwise, we couldn’t have asked for better conditions. I’m really pleased to be the first woman home.”

A Challenging Course with a Mix of Runners
Race Director Jane Appleton, from Cornwall Hospice Care, highlighted the variety of participants, from elite club runners competing in the Cornwall Glass Road Running Grand Prix Series, to charity runners raising funds and those preparing for next month’s London Marathon.
“It’s not an easy race, it’s certainly not flat and Maenporth Hill is a big challenge but if you prepare, this is a great event,” Jane said.
Over £30,000 Raised for Cornwall Hospice Care
Run Falmouth has already raised £30,000 for Cornwall Hospice Care, with more donations still coming in.
Jane expressed her gratitude to all those who made the event possible:
“It takes a lot of organisation to run a half marathon and I’d like to thank the team at the Princess Pavilions, Falmouth Running Club, Devon and Cornwall 4×4, and our event sponsors The Sapphire Running Zone, Jolly’s Drinks, and Omega Medical. We also rely on an army of volunteers each year, and we couldn’t achieve this spectacular event without them all.”
