A new limestone sculpture created by the acclaimed artist Reece Ingram has been unveiled at Trebah Garden, paying homage to the Hibbert family’s enduring legacy in the historic sub-tropical garden.

The sculpture was revealed on Friday, 12th April 2024, in a special ceremony attended by the Hibbert family and members of the Trebah Garden Trust.

The Hibbert Legacy

Located near the entrance of the garden, Reece’s latest creation is a visually arresting magnolia flower accompanied by three robins, symbolising Tony and Eira Hibbert along with their daughter Carolyn Brodie. Chris, the son of Tony and Eira and brother to Carolyn, expressed his joy over the sculpture’s significance. “This beautiful sculpture…perfectly captures the spirit of Trebah,” he remarked during the unveiling. He highlighted that the piece serves as a “lasting memorial” to his family’s significant contributions to the garden.

Tony and Eira Hibbert were the visionary caretakers who purchased Trebah Garden back in 1981. They dedicated years to its restoration, transforming the 26-acre garden into a lush paradise before opening its gates to the public. The Trebah Garden Trust, established in 1990, continues this mission, maintaining the garden’s beauty and accessibility.

Reece Ingram and Trebah: A Continuing Collaboration

Reece Ingram, whose sculptures punctuate the landscape of Trebah Garden, has once again contributed a work that intertwines artistic flair with botanical beauty. Jon Cummins, CEO of the Trebah Garden Trust, noted the importance of the day: “We were delighted to welcome members of the Hibbert family back to Trebah today to celebrate the contribution of Tony, Eira and Carolyn alongside Reece Ingram and our Head Gardener Darren Dickey.”
