Falmouth Lifeboat Called Out Twice in a Single Day for Rescue Missions

Falmouth Lifeboat Station had an action-packed Saturday, 19th October 2024, after two call-outs required urgent assistance on the water. The station’s inshore lifeboat, Julie Poolie, was put into service both times, demonstrating the team’s quick response and commitment to safety.

Missing Person Search in Early Hours

The first call came early in the morning, with concerns that a person had potentially fallen into the water near the watersports centre. The Coastguard requested the lifeboat’s help, and at 8:34 am, just nine minutes after the crew’s pagers were activated, Julie Poolie launched. The lifeboat joined Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and Devon & Cornwall Police in searching the waters between Port Pendennis and Prince of Wales Pier.

Fortunately, the situation was resolved just over an hour later. The missing person was confirmed safe and had made it home, allowing the lifeboat to return to base at 9:40 am.

Medivac Mission from St Mawes

However, the lifeboat crew’s day wasn’t over. Just two hours later, at 12:06 pm, Julie Poolie was called again—this time for a medivac from a Cornish Crabber at St Mawes. The lifeboat arrived on scene by 12:15 pm, where crew members provided casualty care onboard the vessel.

Once the casualty was stabilised, they were transferred to the lifeboat and returned to the station. Upon arrival, they were handed over to awaiting ambulance paramedics for further medical attention. The lifeboat crew then cleaned and refuelled the vessel, wrapping up their service at 1:55 pm.
